Stripped Back: Interior Design Trends of 2017

Posted on 29/11/2016

Designers are putting together their installations ready for the first big interior design shows in the new year. 2017 looks like an exciting year for those who love the stripped back feel of the Scandinavian style. Let’s take a look at what we can expect to be in vogue in the coming year.

Declutter Your Space

Make it your New Year’s resolution to declutter your space. Think in terms of clear lines of sight. Sit in your favourite spot and look around. What clutters up your sight lines? Does it need to be there?

Hold onto Your Hygge

The buzzword of interior design in 2016 was ‘hygge’ - the untranslatable Danish word that has essences of cosiness and intimacy without directly meaning either of those things. Stripped pine floorboards can be made hygge with a plush rug. An austere sofa can be made hygge with the addition of a throw and some colourful cushions.

Chunky Knitted Fabrics

When it comes to choosing fabrics for those cushion covers, knitwear is the big theme this winter. The colour palette is mostly muted greys and midnight blues, but the big trend is for chunky knitted or crocheted wool - you could even have a stab at making your own!

Make Space with Storage

A place for everything and everything in its place. This maxim of sensible storage follows directly from the decluttering that started your project. Do you have sufficient storage space for everything that you need to tidy away? If not, you should take a look at the great deals we have on bespoke bedroom and office furniture.

If you’re inspired by any of these ideas or have some of your own you’d like to share, come and chat to Mirror Image Ltd.
