Avoid a Wardrobe Malfunction: 5 Tips for Caring for Your Fitted Wardrobe

Posted on 25/05/2016

One of the questions our customers most often ask us is how they should take care of their Mirror Image fitted wardrobe once it’s installed. The truth is, our furniture is built bespoke to a high standard and should require only a minimum amount of maintenance to keep it in great condition. Here are a few tips for keeping your fitted wardrobe look as good as new.

1. Prevent moths from entering your fitted wardrobe and eating your clothes with moth repellents such as mothballs. For a natural alternative, try cedar oil or lavender sachets, as the scent of cedar and lavender can deter moths.

2. Our sliding wardrobe doors are made with sturdy tracks that should glide smoothly for years. Prevent dust from gathering in the bottom track and potentially causing your door to ‘stick’ by hoovering it regularly using the brush attachment on your vacuum cleaner.

3. Keep the mirrors on your fitted wardrobe sparkling and smudge-free with a regular dust and polish with a soft microfiber towel. You don’t need to use a glass cleaner – white vinegar and water can work just as well.

4. In the unlikely event that you notice a handle to one of your fitted wardrobe’s doors becoming loose, simply remove it and re-screw it. If that doesn’t work, there are a number of ways of fixing it. One of the easiest requires nothing more than a toothpick.

5. If you’ve opted for one of our stunning solid wood wardrobes, make sure that beautiful wood gets a little TLC. Regular dusting and the occasional polish with good quality wax will keep the lustre of the wood in top condition. But don’t overpolish: every 4-6 months is enough.
